New Year New Review

Friday 3rd January 2014

My second book, 'My Brilliant Life And Other Disasters' has just been reviewed by a young person in The Guardian.

"I loved the writing style...the skills of a very good author...My Brilliant Life and Other Disasters is a great book that I would recommend to anyone."

Thanks 'Purplerubberduckie'! (I love your alias).

There has also been a lovely review of the books on the brilliant website Gobblefunked. They say "We love this book so pick up a copy today and prepare for some funny looks from strangers as you too laugh out loud!"

Conversations With Only Women

Monday 4th November 2013

I was a guest on Lorcan Mullan's ace podcast:

Converstions With Only Women

We discussed writing stand-up, children's books, Martin Amis and Breaking Bad. Not all of our predictions came true.

It's a great project that is subtly seeking out women in the industry without going on about it. There are lots of other fab guests on there already and more coming up, so keep checking back.

The Guardian and more...

Monday 30th September 2013

Excitingly My Best Friend And Other Enemies has just had a lovely review in The Guardian here, by an 8 (nearly 9) year old going by the nick name of 'Amazed Earlthing' (by the way, how good a nickname is that?)

She says: (amongst other nice things), "I couldn't put the book down...a fantastic read...equal amounts of drama and hilarious laughs that hold your attention...it deserves to be in every school library."

It's a brilliantly written review. But then I would say that. But it still is. I'm totally being objective. Thank you Amazed Earthling!

Then the book had another lovely review from Litl Librarian here

So y'know. Don't just take my word for it.

Oh yeah, and as if that wasn't exciting enough already, The Hereford Academy Library (@THA_Library) tweeted that of all the Year 7's chosing their free books from Bookbuzz, My Best Friend And Other Enemies and Michael Rosen's Big Book Of Bad Things were the two most popular. Which is pretty incredible.

Bookbuzz More!

Wednesday 11th September 2013

The Bookbuzz people have added video's to all their authors' pages, and so here I am talking about why you should buy my book. (Not sure I've mastered the hard sell, but it was still a lot of fun to do).

Also Bookbuzz have asked all their authors to write a blog about why they like writing or why they wrote their books. Here is the blog I wrote about writing for them.

And Nosy Crow have written a lovely blog about it all too.

There are lots of fabulous authors on the list, so why not have a look and register for a free book!

It's Book Day!

Thursday 5th September 2013

My brand spanking NEW book, MY BRILLIANT LIFE AND OTHER DISASTERS comes out today! It's here, it's here! The time is nigh! (Nigh? Hmm, I'm sticking with it). The time is NIGH to get my new book! Nigh I tells you.

You can walk into any good book shop and buy it, or order it online to save the walking/bus ride etc,  from AmazonFoyles or Waterstones. The modern world has a plethora of book-buying options.

My Brilliant Life And Other Disasters is published by the brilliant Nosy Crow, and you can even read the first chapter for free here.

It's a sequel to the first book, 'My Best Friend And Other Enemies' and it's all about what happened next to Jessica... It seems like everything's going really well - Jessica and Natalie are best friends again, her comic with Joshua is about to be launched (in the playground), and her success as a cartoonist seems assured. But then she meets Scarlett, Amelia's super-cool, super-annoying cousin, who happens to draw cartoons too! Soon Jessica is fighting for her cartoonist life... but luckily she still has a few tricks up her sleeve. Kind of.

The first book, My Best Friend And Other Enemies, is also available from AmazonFoyles and Watersones, and all good book shops. You can read the first chapter of that for free here.

Edinburgh International Book Festival Event 2013

Tuesday 20th August 2013

It's that time of year again, where it's nearly time for my NEW book to come out. I'm very excited that my second book 'My Brilliant Life And Other Disasters' is about to hit the shelves on September 5th.

To help promote the new book I did a literary panel event at the Edinburgh International Book Festival with other funny children's authors, Philip Ardagh and Fiona Foden. Philip sat in the middle and asked Fiona and I questions about our new books and how we write, and then our audience of young readers asked us lots of questions as well. It was a lot of fun. (That's us in the picture, right before we went on, holding a cactus).

My Brilliant Life And Other Disasters is published by Nosy Crow, and you can read the first chapter for freehere.

Book Two Is Coming!

Sunday 19th May 2013

Book Two is coming! Book Two is coming!

My second children's book, 'My Brilliant Life And Other Disasters' launches in September 2013 and is available to pre-order on AmazonFoyles or Waterstones NOW!

It is the sequal to the first book (My Best Friend And Other Enemies) with all the same characters. This is what it's about:

Jessica and Natalie are best friends again, but things have changed a bit. Jessica's got new friends now and the comic that they've put together has just launched in school to great acclaim. Jess is really enjoying her new-found fame and starts to neglect the wildlife project she's doing with Natalie. But Scarlett, a new cartoonist on the block, is after her comic crown. It's felt-tip pens at dawn!

My Best Friend And Other Enemies is also available from Amazon, Foyles and Watersones, and all good book shops. You can read the first chapter for free here.
